Thanksgiving Day Pancake Breakfast at the Chesterland McDonalds

Looking for an easy way to handle breakfast Thanksgiving morning this year? You’ll find it at the Chesterland McDonalds, where once again WEDGE, the West Geauga Educational Foundation, is serving breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

On the menu: a breakfast of pancakes, sausage with juice, milk or coffee for $4.00. You can eat in the restaurant or take your meals home.

WEDGE is a non-profit organization that provides funds to enable new ways of teaching and learning in the West Geauga School System. Each year the foundation trustees review applications from teachers, administrators, students and parents before deciding which programs to fund.

“Enjoying a warm and ready-made breakfast at your local McDonald’s is a great way to support innovative and enriching learning experiences for West Geauga students while making your day a little easier” said Jerry Pignolet, WEDGE president.

Those interested in volunteering at the breakfast should contact Janine and Rob Stone, event chairs, at 729-7234.

Joelle Ehrbar receives first WEDGE Award

Lindsey Elementary School first grade Teacher Joelle Ehrbar has been selected as the winner of the 2009-2010 WEDGE Award, given to the member of the West Geauga School District community who exemplifies a commitment to innovative and creative approaches to learning.

Presented by WEDGE, the West Geauga Educational Foundation, the WEDGE Award includes a certificate of recognition and a $500 grant for Mrs. Ehrbar’s classroom the next school year. The certificate was presented at the roast for departing Superintendent Dr. Anthony Podojil on Sunday, May 2.

It is the first year for the annual award.

WEDGE recognized Mrs. Ehrbar for her creation of a comprehensive literacy binder to supplement the 1st grade curriculum based upon a district-wide professional development protocol called A~3-Align, Assess, Achieve, part of the district’s State Professional Development Grant initiative. The binder is being used in all three 1st grade classrooms at Lindsey.
